- 1:00 – 2:00 PM – Ota-Wa Taiko Drumming Workshop –
Two Oto-Wa Taiko members will share the joy and energy of taiko (Japanese drumming) by demonstrating different styles of taiko playing and having participants learn basic rhythms by singing and playing them, using their voices and movements. Participants also learn various elements of Japanese culture, such as language, clothing and traditions. Oto-Wa Taiko will provide 4 to 6 taiko in different sizes, with different types of stands, various traditional percussion instruments (Chappa, Atarigane, Hyoshigi, Uchiwa), drumsticks and buckets to follow
on the activity. All students will have an opportunity to play the traditional
drums. - 2:00 – 3:00 PM – Hey Buster is a couple of Singer-Songwriter Dads from
Ottawa (Slo’ Tom and Sherwood Lumsden) and a large raccoon puppet called Buster. They perform original songs from three independently released CDs in an interactive show for children and their parents. The songs range from Mom and Dad approved topics like community and public transportation; to what kids really care about: stinky feet, underwear and boogers.
