Jennie Shankoff has been sewing the Raggedy Ann dolls since 1964. “I think the inspiration came from the fact that I never got one,” she said.
Shankoff said as a child of immigrants from Russia, they never had a lot of money and the dolls were just always out of her reach.“They never had any money and that’s why they made things of rags,” she said.
Shankoff said the first time she showed her dolls she got such a great reaction, she hasn’t stopped since.
“I’ve loved them from the day I made my own,” she said. “I finally got one. I will never forget it. I still have it.”
